Devotional Thoughts: Death & Fear

This verse makes my heart sing! I could and should name to God one hundred things I’m thankful for, but the one I’m grateful for the most is the victory I have in Jesus! What is this victory? Red what comes before these verses:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:54-56‬ ‭ESV‬‬

One of the strangest things God does when He makes us a new creation; God literally morphs us into something else and our fear of death is removed. It sounds crazy, I know! Death might be the greatest fear humans have and those who make movies make a lot of money off this fear. We spend tremendous amounts of money protecting our family and belongings with alarm systems, fences, cameras etc… even my church has an elaborate system to prevent crimes and shootings.

Because I gave my life to God years ago I do not fear death. You too can have this great gift our Father gives. I know the work I do for God is not in vain. If I am immovable like verse 58 says it’s only because God granted me that.

Christian, keep pressing on. Your reward is great! Thanks be to God! My work here matters, thanks be to God! We have victory over sin and death, thanks be to God! Our job today is to be immovable and steadfast, come what may, in this sinful world. Bad things happening shouldn’t even surprise us! It’s the fruit of this world. Yes it hurts tremendously but we are not crushed by it. God sustains and even takes crap and uses it for good sometimes! The enemy thinks he’s winning, but God uses his blow to strengthen us and do beautiful things for God’s Kingdom.

We do not belong here my friends. If you love it here an assessment of your heart and soul is needed. You’re on the wrong track. It’s time to love God more. Repent for death will come, that’s for sure. But when it comes I’m ready, are you?

Devotional Thoughts: Salvation

The Gospel message in one verse! Mankind’s greatest fear is death. One thing that is guaranteed to each and every one of us is one day we will die. Our bodies will give out, or unexpected tragedies happen too.

God offers the greatest gift. Once this gift is received eventually our fear of death fades because we no longer live in uncertainty. What is this gift? Jesus was convicted and crucified even though he lived a sinless life. His body was laid to rest and he resurrected on the third day. This was done and is offered as a gift for payment of sin to anyone will to receive it.

How do we receive such a thing? Confess your sin to God; ask for forgiveness. Thank God for sending Jesus, his Son to conquer all sin and death. Give God your life and commit to follow Jesus, walk in obedience of God’s ways.

I did this years ago and I’ve never been the same. I’m not afraid to die. Death will relieve me from this world of suffering. My sins are forgiven even before I die. You too can know this freedom that only comes from God. It’s transformational and it changes your entire worldview. What are you waiting for? Be brave and approach God today.

Holy Week Devotional Thoughts: Darkness

Suffering stopped for Jesus today as His broken body gave out. Jesus was human. His followers were devastated, confused, grieving, hiding. This wasn’t what was supposed to happen in their minds even though Jesus had tried to prepare them. We look at the disciples like they were crazy acting like they did because we know the full story.

We look even worse than the disciples because we know the full story but sometimes live like it’s not true.

If I believe it’s true I strive for Kingdom things. My suffering comes because I live as a citizen of God’s Kingdom and not what life here requires or values.

Today darkness overcomes because Light Is gone. I too have moments of darkness. Soon the earth will shake, the veil will be torn and the opportunity to have a relationship with the Living God will present itself.

There’s no resurrection without suffering.

God sees our suffering. God cares far beyond what we can imagine.

Step into the Light of the living God today. Let go of darkness. It doesn’t love you. It will ravage you just like it did Jesus. We cannot purge darkness alone but only after reaching out to God.

The main goal of darkness is to keep us from God so we are ineffective, disbelieving, numb, apathetic and complacent. Make your move today from darkness to Light through this simple prayer expressing 3 things to God:

1). I’m sorry – confess your sins and ask for forgiveness.
2). Thank You – for sending Your Son Jesus to pay for my sins. I accept this beautiful gift.
3). Please – please take my life, guide my life, I give it to You.

This is the beginning of transformation. Do not be afraid. You’ll wish you’d done it before now. That’s what everyone says on the other side.
